2003-Bodegas Vega Sicilia Tinto Valbuena 5
Ribera del Duero, Spain
“Bodegas Vega Thee-see-li-uh Tinto (red) Vull-boo-an-yuh (beautiful valley) chin-qua”)
Spain’s flagship wine estate just South of Bordeaux, the initial owners “borrowed” some grape vine clippings from Chateau Lafite and Margaux for their high altitude hillside vineyards (cool and sunny) about 130 years ago. Decades later the organically farmed vineyards attained such respect its wines were served by nobility and royalty in Spain at special banquets. The opulent dark fruit, dried floral notes and glove leather smooth texture seduce the senses with regal aplomb. 3 hours of decanting required before serving with classic roasts, steak, mild stews or buttery cheeses.
