According to local legend, a Monsieur Midipont was highly jealous of the top prestige that the Corton Charlemagne vineyard enjoyed among Burgundy’s white wines ever since emperor Charlemagne served it at his coronation banquet in 800 AD. One day he saw a sunny slope with similar features as those of Corton Charlemagne. He decided to raze the trees on that hillside and it became known as “Mont (mountain) rachet (razed)” at the time of the first crusade. The vineyard produced such gloriously delicious white wines he started to make a fortune from it. As he turned older, he decided to split the vineyard into several parcels, one for each of his sons. The center piece he kept for his retirement. His eldest son was knighted (Chevalier) by the Templar Order before going to the second crusade. He received to highest portion which became known as Chevalier Montrachet. It received the best sun exposure, but cooler in temperature, resulting in a subtle and elegant nuance. Best 2017 – 2025.
