2011-Victor Hugo Estate Petite Sirah
Paso Robles, California
A much too misunderstood grape variety, Petite Sirah suffers from a Rodney Dangerfield syndrome. Contrary to the Petite adjective, it is no whimpy light weight wine, quite to the contrary; it refers to the size of grape, not its taste! The smaller the grape, the more flavor it carries because the flavors rest on the inside part of the skin. The larger the grape the more juice is rendered, but with less flavor… Fans of flavor intense seafood/meat/sausages or spicy/marinated/smoked dishes will learn to love this pairing. A fantastic bargain find.
